With great joy, we write to announce that the Vestry of Church of Our Saviour has called the Rev. Debra Q. Bennett to be our priest-in-charge.
Debra is currently the priest-in-charge of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Roosevelt, New York in the Diocese of Long Island. She earned her master of divinity degree at Bexley Hall Seminary in Columbus, and we are delighted to be the reason for her return to Ohio. Prior to seminary, Debra had a successful career as an editor at several publications and corporations in New York.
When Bishop Hollingsworth sent us Debra’s credentials to consider, we were drawn by this statement: “I am committed to solid Eucharistic worship; faithful Gospel preaching; regular spiritual and educational growth for all ages; sound pastoral care for the sick, dying and bereaved; and outreach and work for justice in the wider community.” Even before we met, we hoped that God was calling her to Church of Our Saviour.
During the past several months, as the Vestry has gotten to know Debra, we have been drawn to her warmth, her eloquence about Christian faith and spirituality, and her commitment to discern with us where God is leading our community. She has given us permission to share with you a letter she recently wrote to the Vestry, and when you read it, we’re sure you will await her arrival with as much hope and anticipation as we feel.
Debra’s first day of work will be May 1, and her first Sunday at Church of Saviour will be May 6. She will work Sunday-Thursday each week, and we will be in touch closer to arrival to let you know how you can be in touch with her and what plans the Vestry has made to welcome her to our community.
Please join me in praying for Debra, for the people of St. Paul’s in Roosevelt where she is concluding her ministry, and for Church of Our Saviour as we embark on this exciting new chapter in our history.
